Brain based learning is the engagement of strategies that align with the ways that people consume and retain information. It helps in cognitive development. These activities basically involve both hemispheres of the brain actively at the same time while performing an activity. These activities can be from any field, from studies to sports, skills, art or daily activities as well. We have posted many such activities on our Instagram and Facebook pages. These activities will definitely help you boost your brain.
A few benefits of brain based learning are that it improves memory, maximizes
the learning potential of a person, minimizes learning losses, improves skills and mental flexibility and makes one smarter. In education brain based learning can be used as a foundation in early childhood development. As 90 percent of the brain development occurs within the first 6 years of life, this can really help to boost the brain. Brain controls our body. So practicing brain based activities since childhood increases the brain connections to a greater extent.
There are a few strategies used while studying something that help in brain based learning. They are:
Receive information in short segments. Do small parts, one at a time.
Use the content from that segment immediately so that it stays well in your head.
Review and revise the content again and again.
Switch the tasks in between to refresh your mind.
Develop an emotional connection with that content so that it becomes easier to remember.
Meaning is more important than just information. Understanding the content helps in better memorizing.
Dr. Marciatate has quoted “If we are teaching brains, we should be using strategies that align with the ways that people consume and retain information.”
