How it all started

Updated: Jan 2, 2022

This is a story of my adventure about following my heart. Like many others, my parents always wanted me to take up a career in the Information Technology (IT) domain. Without thinking much about what I loved doing, I took admission for B.Sc. in IT education, but never really got into it wholeheartedly. But after a year’s struggle, I confronted my parents that I wanted to discontinue this and explore something else. They understood and supported me, but I myself was not sure what I wanted to do in life. I just didn’t want anything that included either IT or Mathematics. I discussed this with a lot of well-wishers, friends and one of them suggested that I give a try at “Home Science.” I read about it a bit more and decided to go ahead with the same.

Many think that Home Science is all about cooking, cleaning and taking care of the house. But, Home Science is actually different branches that include Human Development, Nutrition, Textiles and Interior designing. First year was okay, because we studied generalized subjects of all the courses mentioned above. But my life really changed when I entered the second year of graduation. I took up Human Development. We studied children, teenagers, adults, elderly, men, women, everyone. Their psychology, their emotions, their physical, social, moral, cognitive development as well. I got a chance to think and learn in depth about all of this. I learnt about problem handling, which also helped me in my personal life. I used to love spending time with kids earlier too, but this formal education in Human Development presented me an opportunity to explore the world of children to a greater depth. Children are a symbol of innocence; they listen to everything you tell them with complete trust. I have worked with multiple organizations and with children coming from different social backgrounds. It only made me realise, they all are equally innocent, genuine and adorable. My career has also helped me bring my family closer. It completely changed my perspective of looking at other people, which is more open and mature now, than ever before.

And now the most important thing. Even on the worst of the days, all my fatigue vanishes in minutes when I get to play, chat and spend time with kids. I am completely enjoying my time with them and I would recommend everyone to try out this field of work. There is a lot more to life beyond Engineering, Medical and Architecture. Please give a thought to what your real passion is. From my personal experience I can tell, Home Science is a great career option which will lead you to explore yourself, to seek deeper meaning of life and will give a lot of satisfaction. Taking up this field was indeed the right turn and a life changing decision of my life. I feel proud to have followed my passion!
